The technology company Google announced that it will implement artificial intelligence to determine the age of users and apply content filters according to this information. The vice president of the company's technology division, Jenn Fitzpatrick, explained that they will begin testing an age estimation model based on machine learning in the United States this year.
"This year we will start testing in the United States a model for age estimation based on machine learning," noted Fitzpatrick. This technology will allow Google to determine whether a user is over 18 years old and apply the necessary protections to adapt experiences more appropriately to the corresponding age. It is expected that this model will be implemented across all Google products and expanded to other countries in the future.
Fitzpatrick assured that Google will continue to invest in technologies that protect and empower children and adolescents across the company's platforms. She also expressed a commitment to collaborate with stakeholders globally to develop strong policy approaches that ensure the safety of young people online.
The company also announced the implementation of generative artificial intelligence in the Learn About feature, which will offer interactive learning experiences, and in NotebookLM, a personalized research assistant capable of summarizing and explaining complex ideas.
In Fitzpatrick's words: "We will continue to invest in technologies that help protect and empower children and adolescents across all Google platforms, and we are also committed to working with stakeholders around the world to help advance smart and strong policy approaches to keep young people safer online."
